Thirsty (For Affection)?
In DC we found just the thing to fit the bill combining thirst quenching and dogged affection; The Canine Cruise along the Potomac River! You are invited to come on-board with or without a four-legged companion for a ‘howling good time touring Alexandria’s seaport.” Two, 40 minute cruises requiring pets to be leashed at all times on a flat leash no longer than 6 feet (no retractable leashed allowed) departs from the Alexandria, VA dock on Thursday evenings at 7:00 and 8:00 pm. Round trip fare is very affordable at just $15.00 for adults, $9.00 for children and FREE for Fido. Advance ticket purchases are strongly recommended; these are extremely popular tours for visitors and residents alike.
Often I’ll look over to find Beau staring up at the clouds or a plane or a bird and I imagine that he is thinking, ‘Boy that would be fun… I wish I could fly…’
Actually, you may be surprised to find out that Beau is a seasoned flier. Having lived on Nantucket Island for the majority of his life. He became quite accustomed to the routine at the Nantucket Airport and the flights to and from the island, but he’d never been on a helicopter. So given the opportunity to take a ride in a helicopter we jumped at it. Beau loved every second! He was completely engaged in looking out the window to see the sailboats and motor yachts below us, and he was awfully cute in his headphones!
What an amazing crew they have BHS! This luxury pet-friendly executive helicopter service flies executives and pet-toting people eager to skip airport hassles to their meetings or vacations on the coast. They only fly within a 325 mile radius of their home base in Baltimore. Beau thoroughly LOVED his first helicopter ride! It also happened to be my first helicopter ride and I can tell you, I thought it would be bumpy and rough but it was delightful and smooth. Be sure to call ahead for your reservation (or email) and get special tips for your pets’ enjoyment.
One Pooped Pup?
The Jefferson Hotel, one of the LuxuryPAW Member Properties is a historic, boutique, and uniquely pet-friendly hotel that provides the most modern amenities, excellence and, of course, exceptional personalized service. The hotel is designed for people (and dogs) who appreciate an upscale environment and pet-friendly hospitality. Families with pets are never charged an extra fee or deposit. Additionally, any size, weight, shape, or breed of pet is accepted and amenities are provided to support their stay and personalized for each furry visitor. Upon arrival, dog beds and amenities for food and water are placed in your guestroom. If known in advance, a personalized ‘treat’. The concierge desk can provide a detailed dog walking route or if necessary can arrange for one of our hotel staff to walk your dog if necessary. The concierge also has a full assortment of doggie treats and toys for your pet’s enjoyment. All treats contain only human-grade ingredients and do not have salt, sugar or preservatives of any kind.
For the folks who hold the leash, The Jefferson offers complimentary wireless Internet. Several pet-friendly common areas are available throughout the property; The Book Room, (2) cabinet rooms, The Business Center, and the on-site restaurant, Quill provides pet-friendly patio dining, weather permitting.
As I write this entry it is January 20, 2013; Inauguration Day … maybe, if you haven’t taken a pet-friendly trip yet this would be the perfect destination to ‘inaugurate’ your pet to the wonderful world of travel. Let us know how it goes or if you have any questions.

Hmmmmmm, I think Dr. Katy may have taken those sneakers home, she was really liking that whole concept… ! I know Beau wanted to take the ‘Heavenly Bed’ home, he was pretty difficult to dissuade.

I saw this picture and comment on the Mill House Inns FB page and I can just imagine strolling along the shore or the bluff, in a big cozy Irish fisherman’s sweater(of course, if it came with a yummy Irish Fisherman, that would be fine too), the sun warming my face, that delicious, briny ocean smell on the breeze, and Beau in his absolute glory bounding about and gleaming; his red fur shining in the sun...sign us up!
